SRINAGAR: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha attended the Srinagar Heritage Festival, Soan Meeraas, at Kashmir Haat, emphasising the importance of preserving cultural heritage and supporting artisans.
Addressing the gathering, the Lieutenant Governor reiterated his commitment to the welfare of artisans and folk artists, stating that their prosperity is a key priority. He stressed the need for youth to stay connected to their roots and contribute to Jammu and Kashmir’s economic growth by carrying forward the artisan community’s legacy.
Sinha highlighted the government’s initiatives over the past four and a half years to support craftspeople, ensuring they have better resources and opportunities. He also underscored the role of cultural preservation in sustainable urban development, calling for young generations to engage in safeguarding both cultural and natural heritage.
During the event, the Lieutenant Governor released the book Iconic Women of jk and felicitated students and artists. He visited exhibitions, a traditional village, and an art gallery, witnessing live cultural demonstrations. Various activities were held at Jhelum Riverfront, Dal Lake, and Kashmir Haat to promote community engagement and cultural appreciation.
The event was organised by the District Administration Srinagar in collaboration with the Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts (IGNCA), Regional Centre JK. It was attended by senior officials, security personnel, artisans, artists, and members of the public.
