SRINAGAR: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha stated on Tuesday that the redesigned Old Habba Kadal bridge in the city is a gift to the people of Sher-e-Khaas under the Srinagar Smart City project.

He mentioned that discussions about the urban transformation of Srinagar are prevalent nationwide, and the Jhelum Riverfront project will enhance the quality of life for Sher-e-Khaas inhabitants.

Accompanied by CEO Smart City, Dr Owais Ahmad, and other officials, Sinha inaugurated the renovated exclusively pedestrian Old Habba Kadal Bridge and laid the foundation of Jhelum Riverfront Phase-II in the afternoon.

“Under the Smart City project, this bridge is a gift to the people living in Sher-e-Khaas,” he stated during a media interaction after the inauguration.

Sinha highlighted that the Jhelum Riverfront Phase-II, costing Rs 17.58 crore, has commenced, covering five kilometres and featuring 24 ghats under the project.

The Lieutenant Governor emphasised that the project would enhance the quality of life for Srinagar residents, especially those in Sher-e-Khaas. He acknowledged the discussions about Srinagar’s transformation taking place nationwide and commended the CEO of Smart City and other officers for their significant efforts. Additionally, he expressed gratitude to the people of Srinagar for enthusiastically participating in such activities.

Notably, the Srinagar Smart City Limited (SSCL) initiated a project to redesign the Old Habba Kadal bridge in Srinagar for Rs 1.8 crore, aiming to preserve heritage and create a public space in the congested old City area. The bridge, completed in a record time of five months, is designed similarly to the Zero Bridge, attracting a regular influx of visitors since its completion in August 2023. (KNO)
