After nine days of disturbance due to curfew and protest strike against the hanging of Afzal Guru in Tihar on February 9, life in Kashmir returned to normal on Monday. Public transport and business establishments restored their work and the attendance in the government offices was thin. Besides, rail services also restored after a gap of nine days.

Life in Kashmir was put on halt after Mohammed Afzal Guru, the parliament attack convict was executed in Tihar Jail, Delhi on February 9, 2013. State had imposed curfew on the same day much before the news of Guru’s execution could reach the public. The Valley remained under curfew for seven days and rest of the two days there was a heavy deployment of Government forces in view of the protest strike call by the Hurriyat (G).
