SRINAGAR: The persistent dry spell of the last couple of weeks has ended as light and intermittent rainfall has been recorded since last evening, bringing relief from the scorching heat in Kashmir.
There is a forecast of more rain in the next three days, with the weatherman predicting that light rains will continue until June 08.
According to the Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the maximum temperature in Srinagar and elsewhere has plummeted today as the weather conditions have shifted since last evening.
Although there was occasional sunshine in the afternoon, intermittent rainfall continued since morning, bringing down the mercury across all Kashmir stations, thereby providing relief from the scorching heat.
According to details shared by the MeT, Srinagar, the summer capital of JK, recorded a maximum temperature of 22.3 degrees Celsius, while in Qazigund, the gateway of Kashmir, it settled at 22.5 degrees Celsius.
As per the data, Pahalgam and Kokernag recorded maximum temperatures of 19.6 degrees Celsius and 20.8 degrees Celsius, respectively, while in Kupwara and Gulmarg, it settled at 15.6 degrees Celsius and 11.2 degrees Celsius, respectively.
Some areas in Jammu, including Banihal and Bhaderwah, also recorded a slight fall in maximum temperature.
Meanwhile, Director MeT, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, said that there is a possibility of rain and thundershowers with moderate to intense showers at a few places for brief periods, accompanied by thunder, lightning, and gusty winds until tomorrow.
He further added that light rains and thunder are possible in a few places on June 07 and 08, with partly cloudy and generally dry weather expected from June 09 to June 15.
In its advisory, the MeT advised farmers to suspend farm operations tomorrow, warning of the possibility of thunder, lightning, and gusty winds at scattered places.
