SRINAGAR: For the first time in the history of GMC Srinagar, a live robotic surgery was relayed from Chennai on Friday, captivating the audience.
Prof Mufti Mahmood Ahmad, Head of the Department of General and Minimal Access Surgery at GMC Srinagar, stated that the second day of UROSURG-2023 began with an excellent demonstration of eight advanced laparoscopic procedures in urology and surgery. Experts from the Department of General and Minimal Access Surgery at GMC Srinagar, as well as experts from Delhi and Mumbai, showcased the procedures.
“The demonstrated procedures included laparoscopic resection of large gastric gist, eTEP, laparoscopic Heller’s myotomy, laparoscopic hydatid cystectomy, laparoscopic completion cholecystectomy, laparoscopic partial nephrectomy, and RIRS with laser lithotripsy,” he said.
The highlight of the day was a live demonstration of robotic distal pancreatectomy relayed from Chennai. The audience was engrossed in the procedures, watching with great interest. The delegates praised the impressive surgical showcase and the organizers’ hospitality.
The event was inaugurated on Friday afternoon by Bupinder Kumar, Secretary of Health and Medical Education, who served as the chief guest. Prof Mahmooda Khan, former HOD Surgery, and Prof Gulzar Mufti, a prominent figure in Urology, were the guests of honor.
Other notable attendees on the dais included Prof Iqbal Saleem, Prof Mohd Saleem Wani, Prof Arif Hamid, Prof Mufti Mahmood, and Dr Syed Javed Qadri. The inaugural function was followed by a captivating cultural program organized by GMC students.
On the first day, approximately 12 cases of various urology and minimal access surgeries were broadcast live to the packed auditorium of 400 delegates from within and outside the country.
Experts such as Prof Rahul Gupta, Prof Mufti Mahmood, Dr Syed Javed Qadri, Dr Shafeeq Ahmed, and Dr Manzoor Chalkoo performed advanced urological procedures on Thursday. The procedures included laparoscopic repair of UVF, laparoscopic adrenalectomy, laparoscopic nephroureterectomy, and supine PCNL. Minimal access surgeons, including Dr Anil Heroor, Prof Iqbal Saleem, Prof M R Attri, and Prof Mushtaq Chalkoo, also performed various procedures.
“This academic program has been designed to benefit young surgeons, postgraduate students, and DNB/MCH students from various academic institutions,” Prof Mufti Mahmood said.
He added that on June 3, Saturday, there would be guest lectures, podium presentations, video presentations, and panel discussions on various challenging clinical issues. (KNO)
