SRINAGAR: In a commendable act of vigilance and cooperation with security forces, a farmer in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir has been rewarded with Rs 3 lakh for his role in thwarting a potential security threat. Bhagwan Das, a resident of Nandpur village, was conferred the reward during a felicitation ceremony held at Chamliyal village on Thursday.

Forces use drone to locate ‘hidden’ militants in Baramulla.

The incident dates back to January when Das, while engaged in routine agricultural activities, stumbled upon a Pakistani drone lying in his field while spraying insecticides. Waste no time, he promptly alerted the Border Security Force (BSF), preventing any possible misuse of the drone from the neighbouring country.

The event, attended by BSF Inspector General DK Boora, Samba SSP Vinay Kumar Sharma, and a host of villagers along with local schoolchildren, served as a platform to honour Das’s exemplary act of citizenship.

Inspector General Boora seized the opportunity to announce the approval of a comprehensive plan by the Union Home Ministry for the construction of a protective bund along the International Border (IB). This measure aims to enhance the safety of farmers and residents living in border areas and is slated for completion within the next five years.

SSP Vinay Kumar Sharma highlighted the proactive stance of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, rolling out a policy to reward individuals who provide crucial information regarding cross-border tunnels or suspicious activities involving Pakistani drones. This strategic approach underscores the collective efforts to safeguard the region from external threats.
