SRINAGAR: PDP president Mehbooba Mufti, on Friday criticised the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Secretary’s recent statement, where he claimed that “undeserving candidates were given government jobs in J&K through illegal and backdoor means.”

Mufti expressed her concern, stating, “I feel he (the chief secretary) should be ashamed of saying this. If this is true, let him take action. They talk high and do less. They cannot give jobs to educated unemployed youth but instead remove people from jobs,” in response to Arun Kumar Mehta’s remarks made on Thursday.

Speaking at an event in north Kashmir’s Kupwara on Thursday, the chief secretary had said, “I feel ashamed to say that over 2.50 lakh undeserving candidates were given government jobs in J&K through illegal and backdoor means.” He further asserted that government jobs are now only being awarded to deserving candidates.

Mufti urged the chief secretary to publicly disclose the individuals responsible for such appointments and initiate an investigation, stating, “If such a thing is there, he should reveal who has done this. Officers are involved in the backdoor appointments. The ED, CBI, and NIA are with them. Let them take action against those responsible for it.”

Mufti raised questions about the recruitment processes under the current administration, particularly in positions such as sub-inspectors, junior engineers, and finance department personnel. She alleged the involvement of certain blacklisted companies in the recruitment process and insisted that the Chief Secretary address these concerns directly.

Drawing attention to allegations of a Rs 13,000 crore “scam” in the Jal Shakti department by IAS officer Ashok Parmar, Mufti emphasised the need for a thorough investigation into these accusations.

According to Mufti, such issues are eroding public trust and worsening the plight of educated unemployed individuals. She concluded, “Let him (chief secretary) talk about that (allegations of scams and irregularities). This government is deeply entrenched in corruption from top to bottom.”
