SRINAGAR: The meteorological department on Thursday forecasted rain and thundershowers at most places in Jammu and Kashmir over the next few days. Rainfall at scattered locations in the past 24 hours has led to a drop in night temperatures across JK, with most places recording below-normal temperatures, except for Pahalgam and Kupwara.
A meteorological department official said that there is a possibility of rain and thundershowers at most places, with moderate to intense showers at some locations in the late afternoon and evening. Thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by gusty winds are also expected during this period.
From June 7-8, light rain and thunderstorms are possible at a few places in the afternoon. Partly cloudy to generally dry weather is forecasted from June 9-15.
In the last 24 hours until 8:30 a.m., the following rainfall amounts were recorded: Srinagar 5.8mm, Pahalgam 8.8mm, Kupwara 5.9mm, Kokernag 14.4mm, Gulmarg 15mm, Jammu 9.2mm, Banihal 17.2mm, Batote 17.6mm, Katra 12.7mm, and Bhaderwah 17.7mm.
Regarding temperatures, Srinagar recorded a low of 12.2°C, down from 12.6°C the previous night, which is 1.2°C below normal for this time of year. Qazigund recorded a minimum of 11.8°C, slightly below the normal by 0.2°C. Pahalgam recorded a low of 9.0°C, which is 2.0°C above normal. Kokernag recorded a minimum of 10.3°C, 1.9°C below normal. Kupwara recorded 11.9°C, slightly below normal by 0.2°C.
Gulmarg recorded a low of 3.2°C, significantly below normal by 5.5°C. Jammu recorded a low of 20.2°C, which is 5.1°C below normal. Banihal recorded a low of 12.0°C, Batote 13.6°C, and Bhaderwah 11.2°C. (GNS)
