SRINAGAR: The Ministry of Home Affairs has designated Mohammad Qasim Gujjar, a member of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) currently residing on the other side of LoC, as a ‘terrorist’ under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.
Under clause (a) of sub-section (1) and sub-section (2) of section 35 of the said Act, the Central Government has the authority to include an individual’s name in the Fourth Schedule if it suspects their involvement in terrorism.
Mohammad Qasim Gujjar @ Salman @ Suleman, aged 32 and hailing from Angrala, Tehsil Mahore, District Reasi, Jammu, is associated with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), listed as a terrorist organization under the First Schedule of the Act.
“Gujjar has been actively engaged in various terrorist activities, including coordinating, supplying, and identifying locations for the dropping of arms, ammunition, and Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) through drones. He has also managed cross-border consignments and orchestrated terror attacks, resulting in casualties,” reads a statement.
It adds, “Moreover, Gujjar has played a role in recruiting and radicalizing individuals through social media platforms and encrypted communication applications.”
The government has deemed Mohammad Qasim Gujjar’s involvement in terrorism significant, warranting his addition to the Fourth Schedule of the UAPA Act.
