Hours after militants fired upon a police party in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district, Police, CRPF, Special Operation Groups and Army personnel cordoned scores of hamlets of Budgam and Chadoora to flush out suspected militants on Wednesday.

Reports said that the militants opened fire on Special Operation Group (SOG) party at Achkoot village of Budgam when the said party was on way for a search operation. According to reports, soon after the attack the suspected militants managed to escape.

Eyewitnesses told CNS that hours after the attack, large contingents of police, CRPF and Army cordoned off scores of hamlets of Budgam including Achkoot, Ichgam, Munipapy, Dangarpora, Chitroo and Kargam. Search operation was launched from house to house while members of every family were made to assemble in their yards. Identity cards of the people were thoroughly checked while Government Forces carried out room to room searches.

Reports said that the search operation was extended to Chadoora town on Wednesdaymorning where hamlets like Hashroo, Wagam and Kanir were cordoned off. Army and police personnel deployed on roads went for random checking and frisking while people were allowed to move ahead only after thorough questioning.

A police official said that search operations were carried out to flush out suspected militants present in the District. “We didn’t arrest anyone during the operation, however, security has been beefed up to identify and apprehend these active militants,” he said.

Pertinently, suspected militants shot dead Station House Officer Chadoora earlier this month in main market Chadoora.
