Protests broke out after Friday prayers in the North Kashmir’s Bandipora district as locals demanded bodies of the three slain suspected militants. The area witnessed protests since Thursday as police claimed that three militants were killed in the area.
Police Thursday had said that it killed three “foreign” militants when it blasted a three storey residential house in Khos Mohalla area of Hajin town. Locals said that they heard many blasts while the house was falling down, brick by brick.
Forces had cordoned Khos Mohalla early Thursday and launched search operation saying that militants were hiding in a house. In the meantime, protests erupted in the area and forces sealed the spot the suspected militants were reportedly hiding.
Later in the day, when DIG North Kashmir declared that the encounter has ended, protests again erupted and police had to use force to quell the protests.
“The police and the army took the dead bodies to the police station Hajin and didn’t handover it to the locals,” locals said. As the congregational Friday prayers culminated, locals offered funeral prayers in absentia for the slain militant trio.
Speaking to Kashmir Life DIG North Kashmir Garib Das said, “the militants belong to Pakistan and we have recovered three AK-47 and nine magazines with 164 rounds from them and handed over the bodies to the authorities concerned.”
A J&K Police official said that the trio have been buried in Boniyar area of North Kashmir’s Uri.
