Reiterating that Government is determined to transform the educational sector in the State, Minister for Education, Naeem Akhtar said that it is the fundamental and core sector for the Government and has been flagged as priority area to provide quality education to the students. He said the movement launched by the present Government to transform the State’s educational scenario is gaining ground with various stakeholders enthusiastically becoming a part of this endeavor of hope, an official statement said Sunday evening.

Speaking at a function organized to mark the conclusion of the 3-day workshop on “Quality Education in J&K – Challenges and Ways Forward”, the Minister said this is a starting point for a fruitful and continued engagement and a way forward to bring about the much-needed turn around in the education scenario. He said the focus of this transformational campaign are the students, the teachers and the curriculum.

The Minster said that the workshop which involved brainstorming sessions on various issues, has been able to raise expectations from us, adding that beginning has been made and tangible results shall follow with perceptible transformation of schooling.

He said, “what is needed is a real and concerted effort to provide an enabling environment and work culture, better teacher and student relationship, sustaining teacher motivation and increasing the level of interest and inquisitiveness among students.”

Akhtar said teachers have a larger role to play in bringing back focus on the students, adding that they will be given a free hand as long as they are able to invest in the overall growth of a child. He said education per se is not just having knowledge of the alphabets and the numerals, but it is a vast concept that involves overall personality development of the child. He said that such workshops help bring focus on several issues that go a long way in resurrecting the education sector.

Later, the group leaders also gave a brief about the outcomes of discussions in their respective groups during the workshop.

Earlier, speaking on the occasion Prof Anita Rampal, underscored the importance of having such interactive workshops and said that it is a way forward to address the larger task of changing the education system.
