SRINAGAR: The civilian killed in naka firing incident in Anantnag on October 7 has been identified as Parvez Ahmad, 28, a resident of Rajkang Larnoo in Kokernag area of South Kashmir. Earlier, he was said to be Yasir Ali, a resident of Jajar Kotli near Nagrota.
The police in a statement had stated that the vehicle deceased was travelling in, was without the registration plate and had disregarded the signal to stop by the Naka party stationed there.
The police said that the car rushed at the personnel patrolling the checkpoint and was signalled to stop, following which the CRPF party was forced to open fire in ‘self-defense’ in which one person died.

Zakir Ahmad, his brother-in-law, while detailing the events said that he had gone to work at paddy fields in the village, nearby, during the day when he received the call from the owner of vehicle asking him to be its driver.
A report quoting family said that he got a job for few months and quickly left. On the same day, police reached them during the night informing that he has died in a firing incident.
“He called his wife, telling her that he would have dinner after getting the vehicle from the person but instead we received his dead body,” Zakir said.
Confirming that there were two persons in the vehicle including Parvez, the driver, Zakir said the other person is said to be in custody. “The other person was caught but his identity is not known to us,” claimed Zakir.
Besides, Parvez’s family alleged that they were not allowed to offer funeral prayers to their member. “The police brought the body and buried it straight away,” they claimed.
“We weren’t even allowed to see or bathe his body. We kept watching from a distance while the police conducted his last rites. Even the grave was not dug properly,” the family alleged.

Parvez and his wife were expecting their third child together. He left his wife and two minor daughters behind. He is also survived by his parents and four siblings, three sisters and a brother. His father Nooruddin is aged and weak. The slain man’s family is reportedly living in tented accommodation at Keharbal. They move with their herds to Jammu during winters.
Initially, claimed to be Yasir Ali, he was later identified as Parvez Ahmad. “We don’t know who Yasir Ali is, but we were told that he is in custody,” Zakir said.
Yasir Ali, reports appearing in the media said is a Jhajjar Kotli resident who is a professional truck driver. He is reported to have lost his wallet that carried his identity card. After the reports of his killing surfaced, police went to his home for verification only to be told that he was in Ramban.

The killing has been widely condemned by almost all the political parties in Kashmir. “Perviaz Ahmed a tribal Muslim was killed last night by CRPF. Who will speak for him, he was also citizen of J&K. His funeral was held early morning, even his family was not able to attend nimaz jinaza. What was his fault,” Guftar Ahmad, a Congressman tweeted. “Poor Perviaz Ahmed only bread earner of poor nomad family was killed last night by CRPF. What his two kids will do now. Who will earn for them. What his pregnant wife will do. Family has not even house to live. His killing should be probed.”
“Under house arrest for the umpteenth time today. Wanted to visit the family of the innocent civilian shot dead by CRPF,” Mehbooba Mufti tweeted. “GOI wants us to selectively condemn killings. They are outraged only in cases where hate politics can be lapped up to polarise people.”
