SRINAGAR: Police have arrested nine alleged drug peddlers and recovered substantial quantities of contraband substances during separate operations in Shopian, Budgam and Pulwama districts, officials said on Saturday.
In Shopian, officers from Zainapora Police Station intercepted two suspects at a checkpoint on the Kashwa–Zainapora axis. The duo, identified as Mohammad Zafran Lone of Ramban and Irfan Yatoo of Verinag, were found in possession of approximately 190 grams of charas-like substance. Both were arrested, and an FIR (No. 103/2025) has been registered under relevant sections of law at Zainapora Police Station.
In Budgam, acting on specific intelligence, a police team from Police Post Humhama apprehended two individuals near Salsabeel Educational Institute. The suspects, Javid Ahmad Lone and Sakir Rashid, both residents of Humhama, attempted to flee but were caught. Around 18.4 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered from them. They have been booked under FIR No. 307/2025 at Police Station Budgam.
In Pulwama, police at a checkpoint near Veterinary Point, Dangerpora, stopped a motorcycle (JK02BT/3985) carrying two men. The search led to the seizure of 553.5 grams of charas chura and 19 grams of charas-like substance. The accused, Abrar Ahmad Yatoo of Rajpora and Waqar Ahmad Chopan of Dangerpora, were arrested, and the vehicle used in the offence was seized. A case under FIR No. 257/2025 has been registered at Police Station Pulwama.
In another operation in Pulwama, police intercepted a motorcycle (JK13B/0269) at Mughalpora carrying three persons—Parvaiz Ahmad Kasana of Keller, Bilal Ahmad Gorsi of Zampathri, and Ruksar Ahmad Gorsi of Zampathri. A total of 82.5 grams of cannabis was recovered from their possession. All three were taken into custody, and a case under FIR No. 256/2025 has been registered. The vehicle used in the act was also confiscated.
Police said these operations reflect their ongoing efforts to dismantle the drug supply network across the Valley. Reaffirming its zero-tolerance policy towards drug trafficking, JK Police urged citizens to share information regarding drug-related activities to help create a drug-free society.
