Jammu and Kashmir Government Friday confessed that it has not paid any compensation to orchardists who lost crops in September 2014 floods.
Incharge Minster of Horticulture in a written reply to a query raised by Communist lawmaker M Y Tarigami said that the PDP-BJP State Government has not paid any compensation to the fruit growers of Kashmir who lost crops due to floods in September 2014.
He was asked about the estimated loss suffered by the Horticulture and the compensation paid to the fruit growers due to September 2014 floods.
The minister said, “No compensation has been paid to the orchardists/ fruit growers except Rs 10.80 lakh in Ramban District”.
The mister said that government has projected the 784 Crore (50%) of the ex-gratia relief pertaining to crop loss due to incessant rains and floods in September 2014 to the Government of India.
The crop loss due to September floods as estimated by the revenue Department is of the order of Rs 1568 Crore.
The minister further said that waving off 50% KCC loans given to farmers is “under consideration”. The proposal was taken up view of the 2014 floods.
