SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir’s Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has expressed deep concern over reports of the cancellation of Hajj slots for more than 52,000 Indian pilgrims, many of whom have already submitted payments for the sacred journey.

In a post on X, the Office of the Chief Minister wrote, “The reported cancellation of Hajj slots for over 52,000 Indian pilgrims, many of whom have already completed payments, is deeply concerning.”
The CM appealed to the Union Minister for External Affairs, S Jaishankar, to take up the matter urgently with Saudi authorities. “I urge Hon’ble Minister of External Affairs @DrSJaishankar to engage with the Saudi authorities at the earliest to explore a resolution in the interest of all affected pilgrims,” the tweet read.

The Chief Minister emphasised the need for swift diplomatic intervention to reduce the distress of thousands of aspiring pilgrims. “This measure is crucial to ease the distress of thousands hoping to undertake the sacred pilgrimage this year,” the post added.
Former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti also expressed similar concern earlier in the day. In a post on X, she mentioned, “This sudden decision is causing immense distress for pilgrims and tour operators across the country.” She urged the ministry of external affairs to intervene and take up the matter with Saudi government.
