JKNC’s Sadhotra Slams BJP’s ‘Distorted Hindutva’, Calls for Unity Amid Rising Polarisation

JAMMU: Additional General Secretary of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference and former Minister, Ajay Kumar Sadhotra, launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday, accusing it of promoting a “hoax ultranationalist stance” and a “distorted Hindutva agenda” that he said threatens the nation’s communal harmony and inclusive ethos.

Addressing a public meeting at Haripur in the Marh Assembly Constituency, Sadhotra criticised the BJP for its continued attempts to “exploit religious sentiments” and polarise voters along communal lines. The meeting was organised by Baru Ram Bhagat, Ex-Sarpanch and District Vice President (Rural), Jammu.

“India’s strength lies in its unity in diversity,” Sadhotra said. “Any attempt to divide our communities on the basis of religion is not only politically unethical but also dangerous for the future of our country. The framers of our Constitution envisioned a secular, inclusive India — not one dominated by identity politics and religious discrimination.”

He accused the BJP of targeting minorities while disguising its actions in the language of nationalism. “True nationalism is about promoting harmony, justice, and the rights of every citizen, not persecuting minorities or playing the Hindu card for electoral gain,” he said.

Sadhotra warned that such politics, while potentially beneficial in the short term for vote banks, would “cost the nation dearly” by weakening social cohesion and derailing India’s developmental progress.

He urged citizens, especially the youth, to reject divisive narratives and uphold the values of democracy, secularism, and inclusivity. “India has always withstood the test of time because of its secular character,” he said. “The BJP will not succeed in dividing the country along religious lines, because the people of India believe in unity.”

Reaffirming the National Conference’s commitment to an inclusive and just society, Sadhotra called on all political parties to focus on issue-based politics and resist the temptation of communal campaigning.
