SRINAGAR: Leader of Opposition and BJP leader Sunil Kumar Sharma on Sunday accused Chief Minister Omar Abdullah of attempting to project himself as an anti-BJP crusader to divert public attention from what he described as the National Conference government’s unfulfilled promises and poor performance over the past two years.
Addressing a press conference in Jammu, Sharma alleged that Omar Abdullah was trying to “rebrand” himself as a warrior against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to escape public anger over the promises made during the 2024 Assembly elections.
He also challenged the Chief Minister to substantiate his recent claim that the BJP had offered ₹20–30 crore to one of his MLAs to switch sides.
“If there is even an iota of truth in his allegations, let him place the evidence before the people of Jammu and Kashmir. I will publicly apologise if he proves it. Otherwise, the BJP will be compelled to initiate legal proceedings against him,” Sharma said.
The BJP leader alleged that the Chief Minister’s remarks were aimed at diverting attention from the government’s performance and the alleged failure to fulfil election commitments.
“Omar Abdullah is trapped by the promises and claims made during the Assembly elections. Now, he is trying to portray himself as a crusader against the BJP to regain political ground,” Sharma said.
Claiming that the Chief Minister was attempting to reshape his political image, Sharma alleged that Omar Abdullah was aware of the uncertainty surrounding his political future.
He further criticised the Chief Minister’s tenure, alleging that he would be remembered as “the most incompetent Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir” and claiming that people had seen him “waste two years between marathon tracks and the ski slopes of Gulmarg.”
The National Conference has not responded to Sharma’s allegations.
If you’d like, I can also make it more balanced in agency style by incorporating Omar Abdullah’s earlier allegations as background for added context.
