SRINAGAR: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said India now takes decisions based solely on national interest. Referring to ‘Operation Sindoor’, he said the operation reflected India’s firm approach against terrorism, adding that no shelter is safe for those who spill Indian blood.
Addressing a centenary event marking the conversation between Sree Narayana Guru and Mahatma Gandhi, the Prime Minister said Indian forces forced the enemy to surrender within 22 minutes using domestically produced weapons, showing growing defence self-reliance.
Modi said that India is steadily reducing foreign dependence in the defence sector and aims for global recognition of Made-in-India weapons.
Listing achievements, the Prime Minister recalled living conditions 10–11 years ago, citing lack of homes, drinking water, and healthcare access for millions. He said the government turned service into a mission, providing permanent houses with electricity, gas, and sanitation under the PM Awas Yojana.
He reiterated the aim to provide a home for every poor citizen and added that schemes like Jal Jeevan Mission and PM Janman Yojana are now reaching remote and tribal areas.
PM Modi highlighted India’s role in global movements like ‘One Earth, One Health’ and ‘One Sun, One World, One Grid’. He said these reflect India’s growing leadership in global welfare and sustainable development.
Referring to women’s role, Modi said the government removed barriers in many sectors, enabling greater participation. From sports to space, women are making the country proud, he said.
He mentioned people’s participation in missions like Swachh Bharat, Amrit Sarovars, and millet awareness drives, describing them as collective efforts of 140 crore citizens.
The Prime Minister said the New National Education Policy has modernised learning, promoted regional languages, and expanded access for the underprivileged. He said more IITs, IIMs, and AIIMS have been set up in the past 10 years than in the six decades after independence.
