SRINAGAR: More than 2,200 fruit-laden trucks were evacuated through the Mughal Road during the past 24 hours, Divisional Commissioner (Div Com) Kashmir Anshul Garg said on Tuesday, offering relief to growers and traders amid concerns over transportation delays.
Garg, who visited Peer Ki Gali on the Mughal Road to monitor the movement of trucks, also inspected the Fruit Mandi at Aglar in Shopian. He held discussions with growers, traders, transporters and horticulture representatives, assuring them that the administration was prioritising fruit transportation alongside the supply of fuel and essential commodities to the valley.
He credited coordination between the civil administration and security agencies for the swift clearance of vehicles, describing it as a significant step in easing the burden on the horticulture sector. The Div Com urged stakeholders to follow traffic regulations and movement schedules to ensure continuous flow of trucks on the route.
Mohammad Ashraf, President of the Fruit Growers and Traders Association, expressed gratitude to the Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir for what he described as timely intervention and directions that facilitated smoother transport.
Officials accompanying Garg during the visit included Director FCS and CA Owais Ahmad, Deputy Commissioner Shopian Shishir Gupta, SSP Shopian Anayat Ali, SSP Traffic, and senior officers of the BRO and traffic department. Deputy Commissioner Poonch and SSP Poonch also oversaw coordination from the other end of the route.
Meanwhile, Garg said restoration work on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway is being carried out on a “war footing” to improve overall connectivity.
