SRINAGAR: Since its inception in 2016, the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) has significantly transformed rural housing in Jammu and Kashmir, with over 3.35 lakh houses sanctioned and 2.8 lakh already completed. The scheme’s achievements were highlighted during a workshop on PMAY-G inaugurated by Javed Ahmad Dar, Minister for Agriculture Production, Rural Development, and Panchayati Raj Departments, in Srinagar.
Secretary RD&PR, Mohammad Aijaz Asad, celebrated recent milestones under the scheme. These include completing a record 67,780 houses in the 2023-24 financial year and an additional 82,000 houses by December 2024. He also praised the allocation of five marlas of land to 488 landless families, ensuring they can benefit from the scheme’s provisions.
During the workshop, the Secretary emphasised PMAY-G’s role as a cornerstone of inclusive development and poverty alleviation, providing shelter and homes that offer dignity and a brighter future. He urged continued efforts to identify genuine beneficiaries and ensure no deserving family is left behind.
The workshop also saw the launch of a booklet on PMAY-G 2.0 and a cheque distribution ceremony for beneficiaries. Minister Javed Ahmad Dar lauded the scheme’s transformative impact, particularly in rural and geographically challenging areas, while calling for transparency and efficient resource utilisation to meet project deadlines.
Advisor to the Chief Minister, Nasir Aslam Wani, stressed the emotional and social significance of housing, describing it as essential to family well-being. He applauded the field officers and workers for their dedication and urged them to streamline the verification process to meet the March 31 beneficiary identification deadline.
The event was attended by key officials, including Ashish Shinde, Joint Director of Rural Housing, Ministry of Rural Development, who provided insights into the implementation of PMAY-G 2.0. Other dignitaries included Director RDD Kashmir, Shabir Hussain; Joint Director (Adm), Riyaz Ahmad Shah; and Director of Social Audit, Shafia Naqshbandi.
The workshop underscored the collective commitment of public representatives and officers to addressing housing needs, empowering communities, and ensuring inclusivity through the PMAY-G scheme in Jammu and Kashmir.
