SRINAGAR: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair a meeting of the Union Council of Ministers on Wednesday, the first since the Pahalgam terror attack and the subsequent Operation Sindoor.

The meeting holds significance as the Modi 3.0 government completes one year in office this month.

It will be the first Council meeting since the April 22 Pahalgam attack, which left 26 civilians—mostly tourists—dead. Following the attack, the armed forces carried out strikes deep inside Pakistan in response.

Ministers are expected to be briefed on Operation Sindoor. The operation is also likely to be featured in the ruling BJP’s public outreach programmes starting next week, marking the anniversary of the current government.

“Besides speaking on Operation Sindoor, the Prime Minister may also outline the government’s focus on governance during the meeting, as ministers prepare to engage with people across the country during the anniversary events,” a source said.

On May 7, the armed forces struck nine terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, followed by counterattacks on military facilities, including air bases. The action was intended to send a message that terror would no longer be tolerated.

In recent speeches, PM Modi has said Operation Sindoor represents a “new normal” in responding to Pakistan-linked terror acts, and that the government will continue to act against terrorists and their sponsors in the event of any future attacks on Indian soil.

While the Council of Ministers generally meets once every few months, it had met more frequently following the Pahalgam incident. (KNO)
