SRINAGAR: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said that since 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has visited Jammu and Kashmir five times to inaugurate or lay the foundation of key projects worth over Rs 64,000 crore. He said that under the Prime Minister’s Development Package (PMDP) and other schemes, 53 projects valued at over Rs 58,000 crore are under way, setting the Union Territory on a path of rapid development.
He was speaking on the significance of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail link, which will connect Kashmir to Kanyakumari. The LG said this railway project is a major step in Jammu and Kashmir’s growth journey.
The rail link includes the world’s highest Chenab Railway Bridge, along with 36 tunnels and over 900 bridges, ensuring year-round connectivity. The LG said this reflects both the Prime Minister’s commitment and the aspirations of the region’s people.
He said that under PM Modi’s leadership, inclusive development has ensured progress across all sections of society, and long-pending projects are now taking shape.
The LG added that the Rs 43,780 crore rail project will boost trade, improve transport, and support business activity across the region. He said the Union Territory is moving towards self-reliance and growth through major infrastructure investments.
“This railway line is not just about transport, it is a connection to the future,” the LG said.
