Police Attach Rs 1.6-Crore Property of Drug Peddler in Srinagar

   

SRINAGAR: Police in central Kashmir’s Srinagar district have attached a double-storey residential house along with 12.5 marlas of land, valued at approximately Rs 1.6 crore, belonging to an alleged drug peddler, as part of action under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

The attachment was carried out by Police Station Nowgam in connection with FIR No. 128/2022 registered under Sections 8, 22 and 29 of the NDPS Act. The case relates to the recovery of a substantial quantity of codeine bottles from the accused, identified as Liyaqat Ali Bhat, son of Bashir Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Auqaf Chowk, Kenihama, Nowgam, Srinagar.

Police said that during the course of investigation it was established that the property had been acquired through proceeds generated from illegal narcotics trafficking. Following this, the asset was attached under Section 68-F of the NDPS Act after obtaining approval from the competent authority.

The attachment proceedings were conducted in the presence of the Executive Magistrate First Class, BK Pora, and independent witnesses, in accordance with the prescribed legal procedure. As per the order, the property owner has been restrained from selling, leasing, transferring, altering or creating any third-party interest in the attached asset.

Police reiterated their commitment to taking stringent action against drug peddlers and to dismantling the financial networks supporting the narcotics trade through lawful attachment of illegally acquired properties. The public has been urged to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by sharing credible information to help curb the drug menace.
