Police Probe Militant Link in Kathua Double Murder Case

   

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police are probing a possible militancy angle in the double murder case of Shamsher and Roshan Lal, who were strangled to death in the Billawar area of Kathua on February 16.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kathua, Shobhit Saxena said that the investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the duo’s deaths. Their bodies were discovered along the banks of a stream in Batheri village, Billawar.

“No breakthrough has been made yet as the investigation is still in progress. We have registered a murder case, and an intensive probe is underway,” SSP Saxena said.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed his grief on Monday and instructed the concerned officials to thoroughly investigate the case. He also noted that he had spoken to the local MLA. The Chief Minister shared the information via a post on X.

Meanwhile, a police spokesperson confirmed that Inspector General of Police (IGP) Jammu Zone, Bhim Sen Tuti, visited Kathua’s forward areas to assess the situation.

“Sniffer dogs were brought in on the third day of the investigation. IGP Jammu was accompanied by DIG JKS, SSP Operations and Training, and SP SOG Jammu, along with other officials. We are analyzing dump data from the area to gain a breakthrough. The deceased were not shot. They were strangled and were not carrying mobile phones when they entered the forest,” the spokesperson added.

Sources also confirmed that IGP Jammu visited the site where the bodies of Shamsher and Roshan Lal were discovered.
