To assess sector-wise physical and financial progress besides taking stock of implementation of decisions taken in previous Board meetings, Minister for Revenue, Disaster Management, Relief, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction, Sayeed Basharat Ahmed Bukhari Sunday chaired the District Development Board (DDB) review meeting of district Poonch.

Speaking at the meeting, Basharat Bukhari, called for effective coordination between district administration and people’s representatives while formulating developmental plans. “The legislators should be taken on board while formulating plans for new works in their constituencies and due consideration should be given to their priorities besides conveying prompt response to their suggestions and queries,” the minister said and stressed upon early completion of projects where full funding has already been sanctioned.

The Minister called for undertaking anti-encroachment drive for retrieval of state land to be utilized under various projects especially in towns that are observing developmental and restoration works. He further called for early tendering for procurement of nutrition under ICDS and directed investigation into delays therein.

Underlining the need of having an effective mechanism for water conservation, Bukhari directed submission of detailed project report for the entire district in this regard.

Taking notice of low physical achievements under agriculture and allied sectors, he entrusted upon the officers from Agriculture, Horticulture, Floriculture, Apiculture, Sericulture, Animal, Sheep Husbandry and Fisheries Departments to submit within one month respective ‘vision documents’ showcasing plans and priorities for next 10 years.
Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Chairman LC underscored the need for early completion of youth hostel for tapping high potential of sporting talent in the district. He also called for involvement of public representatives in proposal formulation and decision making.

The meeting was informed that district administration has so far achieved 82.22% financial target amounting to Rs 65.73 crore against sanctioned amount of Rs 79.95 crore under CAPEX 2016-17.

Currently, Poonch is ranked number one in the state for undertaking block wise geo-tagging of assets in addition to holding second rank in India for use of non-conventional energy (solar lights), a feat for which the district is being awarded by Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy soon. Furthermore, 20 new motorable roads have been constructed for directly linking villages with district roads and state highways thereby easing civilian and freight travel.

Legislators apprised the meeting on several issues especially scarcity of potable water in the wake of foregoing drought, early replacement of damaged transformers for uninterrupted electricity supply, removal of encroachments besides constituency specific requirements.

Vice Chairman Advisory Board for Development of Gujjars and Bakerwals, Choudhary Zafar Ali, Deputy Chairman Legislative Council, Jahangir Hussain Mir, MLA Mendhar, Javed Ahmed Rana, MLA Poonch Haveli, Shah Mohammad Tantray, MLA Surankote, Choudhary Mohammad Akram, MLC Dr Shehnaz Ganai, District Development Commissioner Poonch, Mohammad Harun Malik and SSP Poonch, J S Johar were also present in the meeting.
