SRINAGAR: Night temperatures dropped below normal in most parts of Jammu and Kashmir, except in Kokernag and Gulmarg, officials said on Tuesday.

According to a meteorological department official, Srinagar recorded a minimum of 4.8°C, compared to 6.4°C the previous night, marking a deviation of 1.6°C below the seasonal average for the summer capital.

Qazigund,  saw a minimum temperature of 4.8°C, down from 7.2°C the previous night, indicating a deviation of 0.3°C below normal.

Pahalgam, a famous resort in south Kashmir, recorded a low of 0.5°C, compared to 0.7°C the previous night, with a deviation of 1.2°C below normal.

However, Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, experienced a minimum temperature of 5.6°C, up from 6.8°C the previous night, surpassing the normal range by 0.5°C.

Kupwara town recorded a low of 3.6°C, slightly below the previous night’s 3.5°C, indicating a deviation of 1.6°C below normal.

In Gulmarg, a world-famous skiing resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, the temperature dipped to 1.1°C, an improvement from the previous night’s minus 1.6°C, marking a deviation of 1.2°C above normal.

Meanwhile, Jammu recorded a minimum temperature of 15.7°C, 1.4°C below normal for the winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir.

Other regions like Banihal recorded a low of 7.2°C, Batote 10.0°C, and Bhaderwah 7.2°C, the official added.

As for the forecast, dry weather is expected until April 5, except for April 3, when fairly widespread rain has been forecasted.
