Director General of Police (DGP), K Rajendra Kumar Wednesday expressed grief over the death of Head Constable, Sanjewan Singh during a gun fight with the militants at Tral in South Kashmir yesterday. He said that Organization is proud on his bravery in which two militants were killed.
Conveying his sympathies and heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, Rajendra said “brave Sanjewan Singh sacrificed his life for the cause of integrity of the nation and safety of the people”. He said that the Head Constable along with other security personnel raided the house, where the militants were hiding in. During encounter both the militants were gunned down but the brave Sanjewan and an army officer Col. Rai received bullet injuries, resulting to “their martyrdom”.
Born in 1976 at Khelanni in District Doda, Sanjewan passed B.Sc., got PGDCA and joined Jammu and Kashmir Police in 2004. He is survived by his father Shri Dharam Singh, a retired Master, mother, wife and a 3 years old son Laksh. He was involved in anti insurgency operations in Police District Awantipore for last nine years and participated in various operations against the militants.
“The martyrdom of brave cop reminds us the supreme sacrifices of more than 950 jawans and officers of the force during the fight against militancy. JKP is committed to continue the struggle against the terrorism and eradicate the menace of militancy in the State. Due to their sacrifices, people of the State are now feeling themselves in a peaceful atmosphere,” he said.
Rajendra expressed his solidarity with the bereaved family and assured that whole J and K Police Parivar is with them in this hour of grief. He assured that Organization will provide every help to the bereaved family.
Meanwhile, the DGP asked SSP Awantipore and AIG (Welfare) PHQ to process the relief case of Late Head Constable and provide every assistance to the bereaved family.
Earlier, the body of Sanjeewan was received at Doda by Deputy Commissioner, SSP Doda, army, civil officers and prominent citizens at Doda and taken to his native village where his funeral and cremation was performed with full guard of honour.
