Entering the match, Real Kashmir, led by coach Ishfaq Ahmed, found themselves in a must-win situation to keep their title hopes alive, having settled for draws in their previous three outings. Meanwhile, Mohammedan Sporting arrived with a reputation for consistency, riding on a four-game winning streak, and aimed to further solidify their position at the top of the table.

The encounter started cautiously, with both teams adopting a measured approach to avoid conceding any early advantage. Despite moments of attacking flair, particularly from Real Kashmir’s Shaher Shaheen and Gnohere Krizo, as well as Mohammedan Sporting’s Eddie Hernandez and Beneston Piecton Barretto, neither side managed to find the breakthrough in the first half.

As the match progressed into the second half, the intensity heightened, with Real Kashmir pushing forward in search of a decisive goal. In the 60th minute, a promising opportunity arose when Krizo initiated a swift attacking move, setting up Jeremy Laldinpuia for a shot on goal. However, Mohammedan Sporting’s goalkeeper, Padam Chettri, showcased his prowess with a crucial save, denying Real Kashmir the breakthrough they desperately needed.

On the defensive end, Mohammedan Sporting opted for a counter-attacking strategy, a departure from their recent offensive prowess, as they aimed to secure a vital point in their quest for the I-League title. Despite some nervy moments, Mohammedan Sporting managed to hold firm against Real Kashmir’s persistent attacks, ensuring the match ended in a stalemate.

With the draw, Mohammedan Sporting maintained their position at the summit of the league table with 48 points from 21 matches, while Real Kashmir languished in fourth place with 37 points, effectively ruling them out of contention for the title.

Notably, Real Kashmir remains the only team to have defeated Mohammedan Sporting earlier in the season, a remarkable feat achieved on Mohammedan Sporting’s home turf in Kolkata. Under the tutelage of Ishfaq Ahmed, Real Kashmir continues to play a significant role in nurturing local talent and promoting football in the Jammu and Kashmir region, serving as a beacon of hope for aspiring footballers in the valley. Founded in 2016, RKFC has emerged as a symbol of resilience and determination, showcasing the potential of football in the region on the national stage.
