SRINAGAR: Members of a Hindutva group were taken into custody in Pune after they held protests outside the venue of a film festival organised by the National Film Archive of India on Sunday.

Quoting police, Scroll reported that the protestors opposed the screening of a film called “I Am Not The River Jhelum,” alleging that it portrayed the Indian Army negatively.
The film was part of the “Cinemas of India” festival held from February 9 to February 11.

Directed by Prabhash Chandra, the film depicts life in the heavily-militarized Kashmir. During the screening, an unidentified man demanded the session to stop, leading to Chandra being escorted away by police, Scroll reported.

The protest occurred two weeks after a Hindutva mob attacked Pune’s Film Television Institute of India and assaulted students.

The police booked seven students from the institute under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. Also, three persons from the Hindutva group Hindu Jan Jagaran Sangathan were arrested for assaulting students.
