SRINAGAR: Russian strikes hit the city of Zaporizhzhia and nearby areas on Wednesday, wounding at least 21 people, regional Ukrainian authorities said, amid continued heavy fighting, according to the Kyiv Independent.
Ivan Fedorov, head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, said two residential buildings in the regional centre were struck, raising fears that people could be trapped beneath the rubble.
Meanwhile, Ukraine’s General Staff said its defence forces carried out strikes on several Russian targets, including the Slavyansky oil refinery in Slavyansk-on-Kuban in Russia’s Krasnodar region, where explosions and a fire were reported. It also claimed confirmed hits on an oil depot in Russia’s Rostov region and on Russian military units in the Luhansk region.
Russia’s Defence Ministry said its air defence systems intercepted 180 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones over the past 24 hours, Sky News reported.
Moscow has not commented on the reported Zaporizhzhia strikes or Ukraine’s claims of attacks on Russian energy facilities. Independent verification of battlefield claims remains difficult due to the ongoing war, which is nearing its fourth year.
