Safety Audit Reveals 11 Unsafe Bridges, 250 in Need of Major Repairs in JK

   

SRINAGAR: The government has conducted safety audits of 778 roads across Jammu and Kashmir over the past two years, leading to significant infrastructure upgrades and the identification of critical safety concerns.

According to official data, more than 4.26 lakh metres of crash barriers, 31,300 metres of parapets, and 3.11 lakh metres of protection walls have been installed to prevent accidents. Additionally, 15,566 road signs have been erected, and 545 black spots have been rectified to enhance commuter safety.

The data further reveals that a safety audit was conducted on 382 bridges, constructed over 20 years ago, uncovering alarming structural conditions.

The audit found that 11 bridges have been declared unsafe, 250 require major repairs, and 121 need minor repairs.

“The unsafe bridges have been closed to traffic, and their reconstruction is underway, while repair work on the other bridges has also been initiated,” the data states.
