SRINAGAR: Peoples Conference President and MLA Handwara, Sajad Gani Lone, on Thursday accused the Jammu Kashmir government of deliberately withholding basic information related to recruitment and reservation policies, calling it a “systematic attempt to suppress transparency.”
Speaking in the Assembly, Lone said his questions on reservation had been “clubbed” with another member’s query despite having no similarity in content. “I had submitted two questions about reservations. Both, or at least one, have been clubbed with a question from another honourable member. I fail to understand why — there is absolutely no overlap,” he said.
He accused the government of “stonewalling every attempt” to bring clarity on the sensitive issue of reservations and questioned its reluctance to disclose official data on recruitments. “Why is the government not willing to share even basic information on recruitment? Why is it resisting every effort to ensure accountability on reservations?” he asked.
Lone said his intention in raising the matter was to study the wider implications of the reservation policy on human resource development and regional balance. “I wanted to objectively assess the impact of reservations — to understand regional disparities and the long-term effects on human resource development,” he noted.
Reiterating his demand for transparency, the PC leader said, “It is still possible to scientifically and mathematically evaluate the effects of reservation, but unfortunately, in today’s administration, seeking simple answers and factual information has become a privilege.”
