Sajad Lone Slams Omar Abdullah’s Resignation Remark, Calls It “Theatrical”

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Peoples’ Conference (JKPC) president Sajad Gani Lone on Wednesday criticised Chief Minister Omar Abdullah over his recent remarks on resigning in the context of statehood restoration, calling the statement a “theatrical tantrum.”

In a post on social media platform X, Lone said that no leader from the National Conference (NC) has ever resigned in protest and that none would do so in future. “In the history of NC nobody has ever resigned. Nobody will ever resign in the future. They believe in the maxim — power at any cost,” Lone posted.

Referring to past events, Lone said the NC leaders did not resign when the autonomy resolution passed by the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly was rejected by the Union Government. He pointed out that Omar Abdullah was a minister in the same central government that rejected the resolution.

He added that the NC had three Members of Parliament in the Lok Sabha during the abrogation of Article 370 on August 5, 2019, yet none of them resigned.

Lone also mentioned the resignation of Farooq Abdullah in 1989, saying it came only after a complete breakdown of law and order and after the NC’s council of ministers had already fled the Valley.

He questioned the seriousness of Omar Abdullah’s recent resignation remark, saying, “CM Sahib’s statement that he would resign if it paves way for statehood is yet another series of theatrical tantrums. Till date, the assembly has not passed a resolution on statehood. That describes his seriousness on the issue.”

“If you really mean business, resign. We all will resign. And sit on protest in Jantar Mantar,” Lone wrote.

He further alleged that the present administration would be remembered as “the most inefficient and invisible government” and accused it of making false promises, weaponising transfers, and targeting political opponents.
