Former Chief Minister of J&K Omar Abdullah on Thursday said that India and Pakistan were competing with each other to “sabotage” talks ahead of the scheduled NSA level meeting between the two countries on 23rd of this month.
“Shelling, Infiltration, terror attacks & now Hurriyat arrests, clearly no side wants to talk & yet neither side has the guts to call it off,” Omar wrote on micro-blogging site Twitter.
His comments come hours after the government rushed to briefly detain the separatist leaders of all walks who were invited by the Pakistan Prime Minister’s advisor on security and foreign relation Sartaj Aziz for meeting on Sunday.
Omar lambasted the current Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Syed for detaining the Hurriyat leaders. “Shame on Mufti Syed for arresting on demand. He had no business following his masters orders & detaining the Hurriyat leaders like this,” he wrote.
Omar claimed that previous state governments had never detained any separatist leader “like this” so as to “prevent them from visiting Pak High Commission.”
“If the centre was so keen to prevent the Hurriyat leaders from meeting Sartaj Aziz they should’ve been told to detain them themselves,” he further wrote.
Omar opined that it was being obvious that both Ufa and these planned NSA talks were under international pressure with both “India and Pakistan hoping the other will pull out”.
