SRINAGAR: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed deep sorrow for the loss of lives in a tragic road accident in Shimla that claimed the lives of six residents from Jammu and Kashmir.

Taking to microblogging site X LG Sinha wrote: “Anguished by the tragic road accident in Shimla, in which six Kulgam residents have lost their lives. Condolences to the bereaved families. May the injured recover soon. Directed DC Kulgam to provide all necessary assistance to the next of kin of each deceased.”

JK PDP in a tweet said: “PDP President Mehbooba Mufti has expressed grief over deaths of Kulgam residents in a tragic road accident at Shimla. Former CM has urged the admin to expeditiously work towards bringing back the mortal remains & provide ex-gratia relief to the affected families.”

Meanwhile, CPI (M) leader Mohamad Yousuf Tarigami while expressing deep shock and grief over the fatal road accident in the Sunni area of Shimla district of Himachal Pradesh. He strongly urged for the provision of sufficient compensation to the families of the victims, as well as free-of-cost medical treatment for the injured individuals.

“Deeply pained to learn about the tragic accident in Shimla in which 6 labourers from Kund area of Kulgam lost their lives and some suffered injuries. Requesting the @CMOFFICEHP to ensure best possible treatment to the injured and facilitate the early return of bodies. Additionally, an adequate compensation should be to given the families of deceased,” he posted on X.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kulgam, Dr Bilal-Mohi-Ud-Din-Bhat expressed grief over the loss of lives and said that the district administration Kulgam is in touch with the Shimla Administration for transportation of the bodies of all the deceased to their native villages.

At least six workers from south Kashmir’s Kulgam district died, and as many were injured in a road accident in Shimla district of Himachal Pradesh on Monday, police said.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Shimla Sanjeev Kumar Gandhi said that six persons were killed when a truck, they were travelling in, fell into a gorge at Kararghat.

He said three persons died on the spot while three others succumbed to their injuries at a hospital.

The deceased have been identified as Fareed Ahmad Deedar, (24), Gulam Hussain Gorsi (43), Shabir Ahmad Deedar, (19), Talib Hussain Tinda (23), Gulzar Ahmad Deedar (30), and Mushtaq Ahmad Dedar (30)—all residents of Kulgam.

The injured were identified as Manzoor Ahmad Denda, Talib Hussain Denda—both from Kulgam and Aslam Deedar from Anantnag, Ranjit, driver of the vehicle, Akash Kumar and Ajay Thakur.
