Despite forecasts indicating dry weather conditions until December 31st, the Director of the Meteorological Department, Dr Mukhtar Ahmad said that foggy mornings would persist in the coming days.

For the third day in a row, dense fog blanketed most areas of the Valley, leading to low visibility and significant inconvenience for commuters.

The traffic control room has issued an advisory for commuters in light of the dense fog. “Extreme caution is advised while navigating roads in dense fog,” the advisory reads.

Commuters are urged to stick to their lanes, park their cars and wait, avoid speeding, keep headlights on low beam, use indicators to alert others, maintain clean windshields and windows, adjust the driver’s seat position, focus on the road, ensure brakes and tires are in perfect condition, and avoid overtaking.

Night temperatures continue to dip below freezing across the Valley, with Pahalgam being the coldest at minus 4.6 degrees Celsius.

According to data from the MeT department, Srinagar recorded a temperature of minus 2.6 degrees Celsius, while South Kashmir’s Qazigund station registered a night temperature of minus 3.2 degrees Celsius.

The famous ski resort, Gulmarg, reported a low of minus 2.8 degrees Celsius.

In north Kashmir, Kupwara recorded a low of minus 4.2 degrees Celsius, while Kokernag recorded a minimum temperature of minus 2.2 degrees Celsius.

Mukhtar stated that the weather is expected to remain generally dry, with the possibility of moderate to dense fog over central Kashmir, plains of Baramulla, Ganderbal, and Pulwama districts until December 31st.

He added that there is a possibility of light snow over higher reaches during the evening or night of December 31st.

In the first two days of the New Year, the weather is expected to remain generally dry, while on January 3 and 4, there is a forecast for light rain. (KNO)
