SRINAGAR: Encounters and the subsequent clashes between the youth and the security grid may have some civilians critically injured, police sources said. One civilian is already confirmed dead because of serious injuries.

Local sources in Shopian identified the slain civilian as Zubair Ahmad Bhat, son of Abdul Ahad Bhat, a resident of Goaplpora. Bhat is reported to have received injuries in Kachdoora. Hospital sources said he was brought dead. He was a bullet hit.

Most of the injured in Kachdoora were driven to Kulgam, the nearest hospital. Hospital sources in Kulgam said they have two seriously injured people with them. One is Aadil Ahmad Sheikh, who has received pellet injury in one of his eyes and another is Zakir Ahmad who has a serious injury to his neck. Hospital sources said they are ascertaining if the injury is a pellet to a bullet. Both these seriously injured persons were referred to SMHS in Srinagar.

Five fresh injured persons were driven into the district hospital Shopian by a huge crowd. Doctors are assessing how many of them would be shifted to Srinagar.

Reports said four militants were killed in Kachdoora village. The bodies, however, are yet to be retrieved. The area is still in a state of siege and the operation is not over yet. Police said all the civilians from the houses were rescued safely. Police said the entire belt is restless and hugely tense.

Police said so far seven dead bodies have been retrieved from Dragad, near Sugan. “Six of them are in army uniform but one of them is not wearing the uniform,” one senior officer said. “It will take us some time to see who they are but right now we not in a position to tell who is who.” State police chief S P Vaid said they have recovered seven dead bodies from Druggad and it includes top commanders. “One terrorist killed in Dialgam Anantnag after efforts of his family/ J&K Police failed to surrender, one caught alive. In Draggad Shopian 7 bodies of terrorists recovered including top commanders,” Vaid tweeted.

A senior medical officer at the district hospital Pulwama said they have received no major injury. “We have received a few injured but all are carrying small injuries and are being treated locally,” Dr Rasheed Para said.

Police sources in Srinagar said the SMHS has received around 13 injured persons from south Kashmir. Some are being treated for eye injuries, they said.

  1. If civilians willingly jump into the battle zone, they are bound to suffer the consequences of the bullets flying all over. Such persons are generally terrorist’s overground workers. Why else would they risk their lives otherwise.

However, sometimes innocent civilians are used as human shields by coward terrorists when faced with certain death.

On the whole, militancy has become a good business for scoundrel politicians and a lucrative profession for unemployed youth.

These scoundrels will continue to get the simpleton young generation killed for personal ulterior motives.

The worst sufferer is the peaceful common man.
