Police Wednesday arrested an ReT teacher after he allegedly made a molestation bid on a minor student at his private residential house in North Kashmir.
Police sources told CNS that an ReT teacher, Muhammad Ashraf Sofi, a resident of Sheikhpora Kreeri posted at Government Middle School Sheikhpora Kreeri village of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district allegedly tried to assault a sixth class student (name withheld) sexually at his house on Tuesday after school work. However, his bid was foiled after the student raised hue and cry, attracting the attention of family members.
The family members of the girl student said, “On Tuesday after the school timing was over, a girl student arrived at our house. The girl asked my daughter that Sofi Sir is calling her and waiting for her at his house. His intentions were doubtful as he used to show question papers to her in advance, just to develop illicit relationship with her,” said the parents of the victim student.
The teacher reportedly fled from the house while the girl student was handed over to her parents.
Reports said that as the news about the incident spread in the village, hundreds of people from Sheikhpora made their entry into school premises on Wednesday and locked it down. “Some of the angry protesters tried to thrash few male teachers, however, they were stopped by the elders,” said an eyewitness.
The school authorities and the locals called police and a formal case was registered against the accused teacher. “The accused teacher was on run. A hunt has been launched to nab that debauch and finally he was arrested on Wednesday,” SDPO Pattan said adding that an FIR vide number 43/2015 under section 354 has been registered against the accused teacher.
Chief Education Officer Baramulla Abdul Ahad said that the accused teacher has been suspended and an investigation has already been initiated. “We will terminate him from the services, if he is proven guilty,” he said.
