SRINAGAR: The winter season continues to tighten its grip on Jammu and Kashmir, as well as Ladakh, with freezing temperatures recorded across the regions. The bone-chilling cold has led to significant drops in mercury levels, as reported by Kashmir Weather.
In the Kashmir region, Srinagar recorded a low of -3.0°C, while Qazigund experienced a colder -4.4°C. Pahalgam and Kokernag registered -1.8°C and -2.0°C, respectively. The tourist destinations of Gulmarg and Sonamarg reported frigid temperatures of -6.0°C and -8.4°C, while Zojila was among the coldest spots at a staggering -22.0°C. Other areas like Anantnag (-5.1°C), Pulwama (-5.6°C), and Shopian (-6.8°C) also faced severe cold.
The Jammu region witnessed relatively milder temperatures, with Jammu city recording 5.0°C. Banihal dropped to -2.1°C, and Padder recorded -5.9°C. Bhaderwah registered -1.2°C, and Udhampur hovered around 0.8°C. Meanwhile, Samba recorded a low of 0.1°C.
In Ladakh, the cold was more intense, with Leh recording -10.0°C and Kargil at -5.9°C. The Drass region’s temperature was unavailable but is known for extreme winter cold.
The sharp dip in temperatures across these regions signals a challenging winter ahead for the residents, as they brace for harsher conditions in the coming weeks.
