SRINAGAR: Continuing its intensified crackdown on narcotics under the ‘Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan’, police in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Saturday arrested two alleged drug peddlers and recovered 13.8 grams of a heroin-like contraband substance during a checkpoint operation in Qazigund.
According to police, a naka established by a team from Police Station Qazigund, led by the Station House Officer (SHO), at Wanpora near the bridge intercepted a Hyundai i20 bearing registration number JK01BA-6269 for inspection.
During the search of the vehicle and its occupants, police recovered 13.8 grams of a heroin-like substance, a digital weighing machine and silver foil, commonly used in the handling of narcotics. The contraband was seized on the spot.
The accused have been identified as Towseef Ahmad Khan, son of Tariq Ahmad Khan, and Zaheen Fayaz Bhat, son of Fayaz Ahmad Bhat, both residents of Batmaloo, Srinagar. They were taken into custody, and the vehicle allegedly used in the commission of the offence was also seized.
Police have registered FIR No. 178/2026 under Sections 8/21 and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Police Station Qazigund. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the forward and backward links of the alleged narcotics network.
Kulgam Police reiterated their commitment to eradicating the drug menace and urged the public to share information about drug peddling and other anti-social activities, stating that the anti-narcotics campaign will continue with full determination to safeguard the youth and promote a drug-free society.
