SRINAGAR: The seismic unrest in Ladakh, Jammu, and Kashmir intensified as two more earthquakes struck, bringing the total tally to seven.
Earthquake Number Six, registering a magnitude of 3.1, occurred at 9:13 PM in Kishtwar.
Shortly after that, Earthquake Number Seven, with a magnitude of 3.4, rattled the region at 9:36 PM, centred in Kishtwar, with a depth of 10km.
Jammu and Kashmir earlier in the day experienced a series of consecutive tremors as five earthquakes shook the Union Territory and Ladakh regions in less than an hour. The seismic activity, ranging from magnitudes 3.1 to 3.8, occurred between 3:48 PM and 4:44 PM, with Kishtwar as a focal point.
Dr Mukhtar Ahmad, the Director of the Meteorological department, revealed that the five earthquakes originated from two epicentres, Zanskar, Kargil, and Kishtwar, affecting Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh within an hour.
The first quake, with a magnitude of 5.5, struck Zanskar, Kargil, at 3:48 PM, followed by a 3.8 magnitude tremor at 3:57 PM with the same epicentre.
Kishtwar experienced consecutive earthquakes, measuring 4.8 and 3.6 magnitudes at 4:01 PM and 4:18 PM, respectively. The fifth earthquake, with a magnitude of 3.4, originated in Zanskar, Kargil, at 4:44 PM.
Despite the intense seismic activity, there were no reported casualties or injuries as of the latest update.
