In a statement, Bhatti expressed respect for the Apni Party leadership, particularly its President, and said his decision to step down was entirely personal. “I hold great regard for the Party President’s humility and leadership,” he said.

Bhatti emphasised the need for greater youth engagement in democratic processes, calling politics the most effective avenue for achieving good governance and a brighter future. “The youth should not distance themselves from mainstream politics,” he noted.

Appealing to the Central Government, Bhatti sought leniency for young people detained under the Public Safety Act (PSA), stating that many of them desire to lead peaceful and productive lives. He said the prolonged incarceration of such individuals had deeply affected their families.

He also cautioned the youth against being misled or engaging in acts that disrupt communal harmony or violate the law, urging them instead to contribute positively to the nation’s development.

Criticising political parties for exploiting the plight of detainees for their own gain, Bhatti remarked that no party had shown genuine support to the affected families. “I appeal to the government to show compassion — countless families will remain indebted for such a gesture,” he added.

Bhatti had joined the Apni Party on May 4, 2024. His resignation comes shortly after the Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh High Court quashed his preventive detention under the Public Safety Act on October 20, describing the order as “arbitrary” and issued “without proper consideration.” Bhatti had spent nearly eight months in custody under the PSA.
