SRINAGAR: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, V K Birdi on Friday said the war against drugs will continue until the end of this menace.
The IGP during his visit to north Kashmir’s Baramulla district inspected the on-ground scenario of the Police Drug De-addiction Centre and evaluated its overall functioning. He inspected the construction work of the under-construction Police Post in Old Town Baramulla and visited Police Station Baramulla.
Birdi urged cooperation of general public and asked them to share information regarding any drug peddling activities to save the future of the valley’s youth.
Accompanied by DIG NKR, Vivek Gupta, SSP Baramulla Amod Ashok Nagpure and SP Headquarters Baramulla, the IGP Kashmir engaged in a comprehensive assessment. He took note of concerns raised by the staff and assured swift resolution of the issues.
Highlighting the importance of rehabilitating victims of drug abuse, he stressed the need to address the root causes of addiction and support the recovery and reintegration of affected individuals into society. “The Police Drug De-Addiction Centre is breaking the cycle of addiction and reintegrating individuals into society as productive members.”
The IGP acknowledged the importance of rehabilitating victims of drug abuse and stressed the need for a holistic approach that combines law enforcement with initiatives addressing the root causes of addiction. “The parents of the recovering patients must dedicate quality time to their children as a communication gap often contributes to behavioural issues in youngsters.”
The Kashmir Police Chief expressed satisfaction with the overall functioning of the Police Drug De-Addiction Centre and assured prompt resolution of any concerns raised by the staff.
Inspecting the ongoing work of the under-construction Police Post in Old Town Baramulla, the Kashmir Police Chief stressed the importance of establishing a robust and modern facility that aligns with the evolving needs of law enforcement in the area.
The visit also included an inspection of Police Station Baramulla, where the IGP focused on crime data, statistics, and the effectiveness of ongoing initiatives.
On the occasion, he underscored the pivotal role of efficient record-keeping and highlighted the importance of streamlined processes and organised documentation for overall law enforcement efficiency.
Interacting with officials and jawans, V K Birdi commended their dedication and commitment, and urged them to continue their duties with the same passion. He called on them to adopt people-friendly practices, prioritise grievance redressal, and ensure frequent interaction with locals to strengthen the bond between the police and the public.
