42640 Houses Surveyed Under PMAY-G 2.0 in Kupwara; MGNREGA Funds Fully Spent

   

SRINAGAR: Under the Rural Development Department, Kupwara district has achieved 100 per cent expenditure under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) till March 2025. A total of 10,024 houses have been completed under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G), while 718 houses remain under construction. Additionally, 42,640 houses have been surveyed under the ongoing PMAY-G 2.0 Survey for 2025–26.

The information was shared during a review meeting chaired by Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare and Education, Sakeena Itoo, who assessed the developmental profile of Kupwara district. As per district officials, these milestones mark significant progress in housing and rural employment in the border district.

During the meeting, Minister Itoo, who is also the Minister in-charge of Kupwara, reiterated the government’s commitment to inclusive growth and equitable development across Jammu and Kashmir. She emphasised the importance of complete saturation of all welfare schemes, ensuring no eligible individual is left out, especially those from marginalised communities.

“We are committed to uplifting the socio-economic conditions of the people of J&K through inclusive growth,” she stated. “Kupwara holds immense potential, and it is our priority that the benefits of centrally and UT-sponsored schemes reach the grassroots.”

The meeting, attended by senior government officials and MLAs, included discussions on the implementation of flagship programmes such as PMAY, MGNREGA, Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), Ujjwala Yojana, and other welfare schemes.

According to Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Ayushi Sudan, an expenditure of Rs 456.69 crore has been made under the District CAPEX Budget till March 2025. Regarding the Jal Jeevan Mission, it was revealed that out of 1.56 lakh households, 1.29 lakh have been provided with Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTCs), with work underway to cover the remainder.

Road infrastructure has also seen significant development, with 1,958.80 km of roads macadamised over the last two financial years by various departments.

Minister Itoo directed the district administration to conduct regular outreach camps and grievance redressal sessions to bridge service delivery gaps. She also called for field-level monitoring to ensure timely completion of development projects.

On the occasion, Minister Itoo also distributed appointment orders among newly recruited Anganwadi workers and motorised tricycles to specially-abled persons, reaffirming the government’s commitment to the empowerment of vulnerable groups.

The review also covered progress in sectors including health, education, agriculture, ICDS, urban development, and employment generation under the National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM).
