SRINAGAR: The government on Monday said that at least 4,358 schools in Jammu and Kashmir have been merged with nearby institutions under the rationalisation scheme.
In response to a question by MLA Rajiv Jasrotia, Education Minister Sakina Itoo, said that among the merged schools, 1,274 are from the Jammu region and 3,084 from the Kashmir region.
Regarding the criteria for merging institutions, the minister stated that schools operating in the same vicinity or those without buildings or functioning in rented spaces were merged with nearby institutions.
She further said that schools with zero or low enrolment were also merged with nearby institutions.
“The surplus teachers have been deployed and rationalised based on the actual needs of the area, zone, or district,” the minister said.—(KNO)
