SRINAGAR: Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Akshay Labroo on Wednesday urged residents to adopt rooftop solar systems under the PM Surya Muft Bijli Yojana, stating that around 5,000 households in the district have already installed the systems and are witnessing a marked reduction in electricity bills.
He said the scheme is helping consumers cut costs while also promoting clean and sustainable energy. Citing an example, Labroo noted that a household earlier paying about Rs 1,500 per month on electricity is now paying nearly Rs 400 after installing rooftop solar panels.
The Deputy Commissioner assured full administrative support for hassle-free installation, including coordination with banks for those seeking loans. He emphasised that the scheme is voluntary and that the administration’s role is to raise awareness so that more people can benefit.
Labroo added that teams from the Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) are actively assisting consumers and ensuring smooth implementation. He appealed to residents to come forward and avail the benefits, highlighting both financial savings and environmental gains.
