SRINAGAR: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday inaugurated Eveready Industries India Limited’s new industrial unit in Samba, established with an investment of Rs 200 crore, marking a major push to industrial growth in Jammu and Kashmir.
The facility is expected to generate significant employment, boost ancillary units, support local suppliers and service providers, and enhance skill development, particularly creating opportunities for women in the region.
Addressing the gathering, the Lieutenant Governor said the inauguration reflects growing investor confidence and the changing industrial landscape of the Union Territory. He highlighted that the industrial momentum witnessed across Samba, Kathua, Jammu, and parts of Kashmir represents a transformative phase for JK’s economy.
Citing official figures, he said Jammu and Kashmir attracted Ra 5,824 crore in investments in FY 2025–26 alone—over 13 times the average recorded before 2021. Investments stood at Rs 2,153 crore in FY 2022–23, Rs 3,389 crore in FY 2023–24, and Rs 4,145 crore in FY 2024–25. Additionally, 312 industrial units worth Rs 7,864 crore are at advanced stages, with production expected to begin in FY 2026–27.
The Lieutenant Governor also noted a sharp rise in startups, from 69 in 2020 to 1,305 in FY 2025–26, indicating rapid expansion of entrepreneurship and employment opportunities across the Union Territory.
The Eveready plant, a state-of-the-art greenfield facility, will have an annual peak production capacity of around 360 million alkaline batteries and an installed capacity of 456 million units, strengthening domestic manufacturing and meeting rising demand for power solutions.
Eveready officials stated that the unit will generate around 500 direct and indirect jobs at full operational capacity and contribute to the vision of self-reliant India.
Senior officials, industry representatives, and company executives attended the inaugural ceremony.
