6,121 Rooftop Solar Units Installed Under PM Surya Ghar Scheme in JK

   

SRINAGAR: Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo on Monday reviewed the implementation of the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSMBY), with focus on speeding up rooftop solar installations across Jammu and Kashmir and solarisation of government buildings.

As of now, 6,121 rooftop solar systems with a total capacity of 22.51 MW have been installed across the Union Territory, according to JPDCL Managing Director Choudhary Yasin. Under JPDCL, 12,206 consumers have selected vendors and 802 have completed payments. Under KPDCL, 8,108 consumers have chosen vendors and 690 have made payments. The total application load stands at approximately 78.51 MW for JPDCL and 103.35 MW for KPDCL.

The Chief Secretary directed distribution companies JPDCL and KPDCL to expedite installations and complete the process in a time-bound manner. He also instructed Deputy Commissioners to personally monitor progress, verify installed systems, and submit building-wise reports by June 30.

To ensure rural access, he asked officials to empanel Common Service Centre (CSC) operators for consumer registrations at the grassroots level. Field inspections by senior officers were also mandated to maintain installation quality.

For solarisation of government buildings, CEO JAKEDA P.N. Dhar informed that the scheme targets a combined capacity of 245 MW—70 MW through Capex mode and 175 MW under the RESCO model. Under Capex, 5,220 buildings (43.40 MW) are already taken up, with work orders issued for 3,403 buildings (34.39 MW). Under RESCO mode, NHPC will complete 1,500 buildings (35 MW), while JAKEDA will solarise 8,000 buildings (175 MW).

Principal Secretary, Finance, Santosh D Vaidya called for registration and incentivisation of local contractors to improve vendor capacity and ensure timely completion. Principal Secretary, Power Development Department, Rajesh Prasad noted a significant rise in consumer interest and stressed on improving ground-level execution.

MD KPDCL Mehmood Ahmad Shah raised terrain-specific issues in the Valley and said vendors must scale up procurement and manpower to match the demand.

The meeting was attended by Principal Secretaries of Power and Finance, MDs of JPDCL and KPDCL, Deputy Commissioners, CEO JAKEDA, Chief Engineers, and other senior officials.
