A day after communal clashes broke out at Poond village in Basohli in Kathua District of Jammu province allegedly over the issue of cow slaughter, the situation continued to remain tense after fresh reports of cow slaughtering from Batote area of Ramban District on Tuesday.
After fresh tension against the cow slaughter in Village Chackwa near Patnitop in Ramban District, senior police officers immediately deputed SHO Batote and Kud to look into the allegations, beside directed them to take stern action against the people who slaughtered a cow.
Meanwhile on the appeal of various Hindu organizations including BJP, the majority of areas in Kathua District including Basholi observed band and people at different places held protests as a result of which the vehicular movement on Jammu-Pathankot road remained effected. Similarly people at Kud also held strong protests against cow slaughtering in Karla area. Sensing communal tension, the security has been beefed up in many areas of Jammu province including Kathua, Ramban and Kishtwar Districts.
In Kathua, official sources said the District administration also imposed section 144 and called in two columns of army to deal with the law and order situation after violent clashes were witnessed in the area following the cow slaughtering incident.
They added that unruly mob burned down over a dozen shops and Khokas.
